Q & A with Joseph King Kong Agbeko: I Believe It’s Gonna Be Easy!

WBC/IBF/WBA Junior Bantamweight champion Vic “Raging Bull” Darchinyan moves up in weight again, now to bantamweight, to challenge IBF 118 champ Joseph King Kong Agbeko on July 11 in Sunrise, FL. 33-year-old Darchinyan, the former IBF Flyweight champ with a record of 32-1 with 26 KO’s, will be gunning to bring home his third weight class world title, but may be taking on more than he can handle with the talented man from Africa.

29-year-old Agbeko, from Ghana but now based in New York City, has a fine record of 26-1 (22) and is in prime form. Agbeko is a busy fighter who works on angles to land his big punch and sounds quite confident he will pull off the upset of Showtime star Darchinyan, going as far as saying Darchinyan is a one-handed fighter and it will be an “easy” night’s work…

BoxingInsider: What are your chances of beating Vic Darchinyan?

Joseph King Kong Agbeko: I believe I have a very good chance at beating Vic Darchinyan. The night belongs to me.

BoxingInsider: What will be the key to victory for you?

Joseph King Kong Agbeko: I think my preparation. I was already 100% prepared enough for the fight a month ago. And the preparation, the condition are the keys for me to beat him.

BoxingInsider: What about his arsenal concerns you about Darchinyan?

Joseph King Kong Agbeko: Vic is a very good fighter. I wouldn’t call him a boxer, he’s a fighter. He fights with only one hand. I don’t believe in his both hands, I think he’s got only one hand. And any time I think of him, I think of beating him. Like I think of that day July 11 the happiness I’m gonna get.

BoxingInsider: Prediction?

Joseph King Kong Agbeko: Boxing, you know, boxing sometimes you predict a tough fight and it becomes very easy. Sometimes you see an easy fight and you go in and it becomes a tough fight. Me and Darchinyan – some people are seeing it as any easy fight for Darchinyan. Some people see it as a tough fight for both of us. But I believe it’s gonna be easy for me that day.

BoxingInsider: Why so?

Joseph King Kong Agbeko: Yeah, I believe so.

BoxingInsider: How do you think it will play out in the ring? Why do you believe it will be easy for you?

Joseph King Kong Agbeko: Yeah, because Darchinyan is good but he’s not as strong. He’s got two hands and I’ve got two hands. And I believe I’ve got the better skills than him and I can do better than him. He’s only got his punches. I don’t know of he’s ready to take mine. That’s the problem.

BoxingInsider: You’re saying he’s never faced anyone with a skill set like you?

Joseph King Kong Agbeko: Never. Never.

BoxingInsider: What is it about you that’s different than anybody’s he’s faced?

Joseph King Kong Agbeko: Because I’m better than him. I’ve got better skills than him. I can think better than him. And I can do most things that he cannot do. I’m gonna do it.
