Coming off of his impressive knockout win over countryman Dereck Chisora this summer, un-retired UK heavyweight contender David “Hayemaker” Haye has been relentlessly campaigning for a fight with WBC world heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko, in what would be the biggest heavyweight showdown in years.
And Haye, who has been uncharacteristically reserved since losing on points to Vitali’s younger brother and co-world champ Wladimir in 2011, is starting to round back into rhetorical form these days, as he presses for the match that Vitali has often said he badly wants.
When recently asked by Sport Bild why he is so desperate for a Vitali bout, Haye was his old caustic self.
“Because he has promised the world so many times that he can beat me, that he can KO me,” said the Hayemaker.
“This is complete crap! Wladimir Klitschko also promised to knock me out, and could not even hit me hard in twelve rounds.
“I’m too fast, too sexy and too talented to be blown away by a large, slow robot from the Ukraine.”
Haye also swatted away rumors that he and Vitali would stage a spring extravaganza in the Ukrainian capital of Kiev for the champion’s farewell fight, as the elder Klitschko moves from the squared circle into politics. According to Haye, a racist element in Ukraine prohibits him from fighting there.
“I’ve never been in Ukraine, but I’ve heard that it is very dangerous for a black man there,” says Haye.
“There are crazy racists [in Ukraine] who have already sent me death threats. So Germany would be for me the best and safest place to defeat Vitali and to get out of the stadium alive. ”
The Briton also couldn’t resist taking a shot at the caliber of recent Klitschko opponents, and reiterated that he and Vitali is the biggest heavyweight match-up to be made in boxing.
“I think that the fight Haye against Vitali Klitschko is the only heavyweight fight fans want across the world,” Haye opines.
“I do not care about having 50 fights against wimps as the Klitschkos do. I want the big fights that no fan wants to miss.
“Vitali likes to compete against boxers who have no chance to win. Then he and his TV station RTL try to fool the rest of the world, saying that his challengers will fight hard and are good opponents.
“I can only laugh!”
