It has been reported that 23-year-old two-time world champion Adrien Broner has encountered some problems with the law. According to an Instagram photo which was posted to the undefeated star’s account—and then later removed—he was arrested at 10:13 a.m. earlier this morning.
Multiple sources confirmed that Broner was arrested in Miami Beach, according to one of their staff members who was in contact with the city’s police department.
The mugshot photo of Broner’s arrest also indicated that the bond amount for the charge of battery was $1,500.
Sadly battery charges amongst the boxing community has not been a rarity; undisputed pound-for-pound champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. spent two months this past summer in a Las Vegas jail following his arrest for a misdemeanor domestic battery charge; in 2011 Floyd’s uncle Roger accepted a plea agreement regarding a battery case.
Broner has progressively risen through the ranks, and his skills have been comparable to Floyd Mayweather Jr. As of recent there have been talks about him moving up to welterweight to battle belt holder Paulie Malignaggi.
Going forward it will be interesting to see how this affects his immediate plans to return to the ring.
