Canada’s Adonis “Superman” Stevenson warmed up for his upcoming battle with Chad Dawson tonight when he brutally knocked out American Darnell Boone in the sixth round of their fight at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec.
Boone–the only man to defeat Stevenson, via a shock TKO in 2010–clowned when “Superman” tagged him hard in the first round, but he wouldn’t find the action in this rematch amusing for very long. Stevenson was loading up early, looking for revenge and not wanting to prolong what seemed inevitable. He soon trapped Boone in the corner and strafed him with withering body shots, and Boone was relieved when the bell sounded to end round one.
Stevenson continued pounding on the game but over-matched Boone in round two. Vicious body shots from “Superman” continued to take their toll, and at one point Boone lost his balance and fell through the ropes. Blood was already dribbling from Boone’s mouth at the end of the round.
Things deteriorated rapidly for Boone as Stevenson continued his fistic assault, and the American’s right eye was swollen badly by round six. After an extended exchange in the corner where Boone desperately tried to use a “rope-a-dope” strategy, Stevenson wisely took a step back and nailed his foe with a thudding uppercut on the chin that left Boone statue-like, out on his feet, literally teed up for a devastating knockout blow.
The southpaw Stevenson made no mistake, nailing the frozen Boone with a wicked straight home run shot that left him out cold on the mat at 2:43 of round six.
Adonis Stevenson (20-1, 17 KOs) had his revenge, and now confidently awaits his meeting with WBC light heavyweight champion Dawson in June at the Bell Centre.
In a notable undercard bout, Hughie Fury, 18-year-old cousin of heavyweight contender Tyson Fury, made his pro debut with a TKO win over journeyman David Whittom.
Fury fought with calm and confidence, using his length (he’s 6-foot-8, an inch shorter than cousin Tyson) well and constantly snapping a hard left jab that kept his opponent off guard in round one.

Finally, a glancing right hand from Fury badly wobbled Whittom, and his corner quickly called for the fight to be stopped at 1:49 of round two.
Hughie Fury will next fight on April 20, on the undercard of cousin Tyson’s bout with American veteran Steve “USS” Cunningham at Madison Square Garden in Manhattan, NY.
In another heavyweight bout, Canadian Didier Bence (8-0, 2 KOs) won a unanimous decision over Jonte Willis by scores of 78-73 (twice) and 76-75.
