PBC on NBC Preview:: Robert Guerrero vs Aron Martinez & Cuellar vs Darchinyan

By: Matthew N. Becher

This Saturday afternoon Premier Boxing Champions will be coming live from the Stub Hub Center in Carson, California to bring you a heavily stacked fight card. From the Featherweights all the way up to the Heavyweight division. The two main fights will be televised on NBC starting at 3PM/EST and switching over to NBC Sports Channel for the remaining bouts. It is the first time that a fighter will be making his second go round on a PBC telecast, and that honor is bestowed to Robert Guerrero. The welterweight that lost in the main event of the first ever televised PBC broadcast, against Keith Thurman. But who showed enough heart and determination to have fight fans wanting to see more.

In the first match the WBA Featherweight title will be on the line. Jesus Marcelo Andres Cuellar (26-1 20KO) will be looking to solidify his young career and become a world champion. Cuellar is an up and coming 28 year old Argentine that made a huge splash in the division late last year after knocking out Juan Manuel Lopez in the second round of what was supposed to be Lopez’s comeback trail. Standing in the way now of Cuellar’s dream is the “Raging Bull”, former four time world champion Vic Darchinyan (40-7-1 29KO). Darchinyan is as tough as they come in the division. Though his career is winding down, he is never to be counted out. At 39 this most likely will be Darchinyan’s last shot at a title, and the last thing you want to do is underestimate a man down to his last shot.

The main event takes place in the Welterweight division. Aron Martinez (19-3-1 4ko) of East L.A will be making his first appearance under the bright PBC national spotlight. Coming off of a 5th round TKO loss to Josesito Lopez last year, Martinez will need to have a big night to get back on track and hopefully gain some fans in the process. Guerrero (32-3-1 18KO) is the epitome of what a warrior boxer is. A former 3x world champion, he has been in the ring with the best of them. From big wins over Andre Berto, to big losses to Floyd Mayweather Jr. Guerrero always gives his all and has one of the highest entertainment values in the sport. With his career coming to a close, Guerrero plans on only fighting two more times after Saturday, he will need a showcase win to get one last crack at a world title. Expect to see what we usually do from Guerrero, an all-out fight.

Other notable fights on the card that will be shown on NBC Sports after the main event are: Marvin Sonsona v. Jonathan Arrellano (Featherweight)

Dominic Breazeale v. Yasmany Consuegra (Heavyweight)

Alfredo Angulo v. Delray Raines (Middleweight)
