Kell Brook vs. Kevin Bizier Set for March 26 in Sheffield

Saint-Emile’s Kevin Bizier will finally get a crack at the welterweight championship when he faces the dominant Kell Brook on March 26th in Sheffield, England.

The fight was officially announced Groupe Yvon Michel and Matchroom Sport on Thursday in Québec.

After having earned the IBF’s mandatory challenging position last November by defeating Fredrick Lawson, Bizier’s promoter

Yvon Michel went to work negotiating the fight with Brook’s promoter, Eddie Hearn. After some deliberation, a deal was put together to avoid going to Tuesday’s purse bid.

Bizier is excited at the opportunity.

“You could not ask for better time” said Bizier (translated from French) on Thursday.

“It will allow me to have a good training camp with my trainer (Marc Ramsay) beginning next week in Montréal.”

As for what it will take to beat Brook?

“Brook’s a big puncher who manages his distance well, so fighting inside will give me a better chance of winning.”

Bizier (25-2, 17 KOs) and Brook (35-0, 24 KOs) will fight at Sheffield’s Motorpoint Arena, the same arena where Brook defeated Jo Jo Dan nearly one year ago.

Ironically, Bizier’s only two losses came in close fights against Dan.

“Those two fights will help me. The crowd was behind me and when landed my shots, I wanted to respond to crowd by ending the fight immediately instead of boxing. I will not make that mistake again.”

The fight is likely to be broadcast live on Sky Sports in the UK. American and Canadian television information will be announced in the coming weeks.

Eye of the Tiger Management announced on Friday that David Lemieux will return to action in Montréal in March.

Eye of the Tiger, who co-promotes Lemieux with Los Angeles-based Golden Boy Promotions, delivered the news in French via their Facebook page:

“We are extremely proud to announce that the next fight of David Lemieux will take place here in Montréal,” the release states.

“David had promised his supporters, after his trip to south of the border (in New York against Gennady Golovkin) he would immediately fight at home. When man gives his word of honor, he holds it. All the details will be unveiled on Monday, stay tuned!”

Heavyweight Oscar Rivas (18-0, 13 K.O.) the hard hitting Columbian based in Montréal, will return to American soil on February 26th to face Gerald Washington (16-0-1, 11 KOs) in Los Angeles, said Yvon Michel on Thursday in Canada.

The fight is likely to be part of the Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) series.
