LOS ANGELES (June 2, 2011) – Son of the Living Legend and the No. 1-rated middleweight contender, JULIO CÉSAR CHÁVEZ, JR. (42-0-1, 30 KOs), of Culiacan, México, and undefeated World Boxing Council (WBC) middleweight champion SEBASTIAN ZBIK (30-0, 10 KOs), of Schwerin, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany, will see each other one last time before they meet in the ring in the main event of “The Son Also Rises: Zbik vs. Chávez, Jr. World Middleweight Championship.” Zbik and Chávez Jr. will step on the scale for their Official Weigh-in, Tomorrow! Friday, June 3, outdoors at the STAPLES Center Star Plaza, near the Team LA store, (1111 South Figueroa St., Los Angeles, Calif. 90015) at 1 p.m. PT.

Following Chávez Jr. and Zbik on the scale will be undefeated No. 1 lightweight contender MIKEY GARCIA (25-0, 21 KOs) of Oxnard, Calif. and his opponent RAFAEL GUZMAN (28-2, 20 KOs), of Guadalajara, México, (the Garcia vs. Guzman 10-round featherweight bout will open the HBO broadcast); undefeated No. 1 super welterweight contender and former U.S. Olympian VANES MARTIROSYAN (29-0, 18 KOs), of Glendale, Calif., and his opponent SAUL ROMAN (34-8, 29 KOs), of Culiacan, México, (Martirosyan and Roman will battle in a 12-round WBC super welterweight title elimination bout on the non-televised undercard); and WBC female super welterweight champion CHRISTY MARTIN (49-5-3, 32 KOs), of Orlando, Fla., going for her landmark 50th career victory in a personal and professional comeback, and her opponent DAKOTA STONE (9-8-4, 1 KO), of Auburn, Wash., (Martin and Stone rumble in a rematch of their closely- contested 2009 fight on the non-televised undercard.) The remainder of the undercard will weigh in after them.

Promoted by Top Rank, in association with Zanfer Promotions, Universum Media Network, TECATE and STAPLES Center, the Chávez, Jr. vs. Zbik world middleweight championship will take place Saturday, June 4, at STAPLES Center, and marks the first fight Chávez Jr. has fought in Los Angeles in six years. It will be televised live on HBO Boxing After Dark®, beginning at 10 p.m. ET/PT (delayed on the West Coast.)
The world championship event will be highlighted by a celebration of the boxing career of Julio César Chávez Sr. Chávez will be inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame the following week.
