It’s not even Christmas and Marcos Rene Maidana may get an early gift this year. Being granted a second fight with Floyd Mayweather would be like winning the lottery. No other opponent on the planet would offer Maidana the same payday or exposure and having been in there with him before–the intimidation factor is removed. Supposedly, the fight is close to being signed.

Come September 13, the 30-year old would get another chance to dethrone the king. There are two schools of thought on this fight. The first, most popular belief, is that 37 year-old Mayweather will beat him again–more emphatically. Having seen what Maidana has to offer, Mayweather will train and spar accordingly.
His fans are assured that he is miles ahead of Maidana in speed, boxing ability, poise and confidence. It’s their feeling that he will beat Maidana easier this time, possibly even stopping him in the later rounds.
It is universally agreed that few men have given Mayweather a better, closer fight than Maidana did. One judge, Michael Pernick, saw the May 3 fight as a draw. Many fans in attendance booed the decision. They felt that Maidana did enough to win.
Is a 7-years age difference significant? The Maidana fans believe so. They feel that Mayweather’s aging legs will look even older this time around. They are comfortable with thinking that Maidana learned enough from the first fight to have unraveled the mystery and will beat him easily this time, if given the chance.
Other critics are wondering why Mayweather would even bother fighting him again. With other fish in the pond, is this the wisest move? Once a man has tied with you in one man’s eyes, is it worth giving him the chance to finish the job he started? Or is he the lesser of the evils because you know what to expect and have him figured out?
Writers and fans have been buzzing about this announcement since the BET awards when Floyd announced it. His supporters love it. His detractors are praying for an an upset.
Considering that Floyd says he has a huge announcement for his May 2015 fight–it’s clear that he doesn’t plan to lose. That’s how clever Mayweather is. By dangling next year’s fight in front of us, it makes this fight all the more important. Should he lose–we don’t get to see who he picked for next year. So we’ll all be buying the fight to see of he wins or not. Awesome marketing.
Love him or hate him, Floyd Mayweather is amazing. With a net worth of close to $300 million, he has proven that boxers can be superstars. He out-earns LeBron James and Kobe Bryant. His face is recognized all over the world and his brash personality is imitated by young boxers everywhere.
Most fighters used to want to be like Muhammad Ali or Mike Tyson. Now they all want to be like Floyd.
