They say that any given man can beat any other given man on any given night. This was not the night for Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero.

To most of us sitting at the MGM Garden watching the fight, it played out exactly as expected. It was a lop-sided win with Guerrero only winning three out of twelve rounds. It was basically a sparring session. A very pricey one.
Money Mayweather picked up $30+million for a very easy workout. Guerrero scored over $3 mill. Not a bad day at the office. The loss did not really hurt The Ghost and the win didn’t really do much for the Mayweather Legacy either. But they both walked out happy.
The crowd for big championship fights is always eclectic and interesting. Where else can you see chef Guy Fieri and Suge Knight in the same place at the same time? And what other event has Diddy and Triple H sucking the same air?
The girls were dressed to the nines in their short skirts and high heels. The bling was out in full force. And the smell of weed permeated the air (at least where I was sitting).
Most of the top names in boxing were there: Thomas Hearns, Evander Holyfield, Antonio Tarver, Chad Dawson, Ishe Smith, Danny Garcia, Austin Trout, Victor Ortiz, Oscar de La Hoya, Fernando Guerrero and others.
The card itself was decent, if not exciting. It was the main event that turned out to be anti-climatic. Floyd is smart enough at 36 years old to measure his every move and stay strong and bouncy for 12 rounds. He is almost impossible to hit and is a master of making the other man miss. In 44 fights as a pro, no one has figured out how to beat this guy.
What’s next for Money Floyd? He has five more fights with Showtime and now that Pacquaio is out of the picture, the fans are screaming for Canelo Alvarez when Floyd fights again on September 14. The bigger Canelo gets–the more people will demand the match-up.
It’s doubtful he will fight his buddy Adrien Broner. So Canelo has been the one everyone is talking about. After his recent win over Austin Trout, everyone realizes that he is as good as it gets. At 22, he is a veteran of 43 fights and has never lost one.
Whatever Floyd does next, it’s apparent that he is the biggest draw in boxing today and can fight anyone he chooses and the arena will be sold out. A Mayweather fight is not just a boxing match. It is an EVENT.
