Legendary fighter Muhammad Ali has cruised home in a recent poll to claim the title of ‘Greatest Boxing Icon’ in a survey conducted by leading Bookmakers William Hill.
Despite not having donned a boxing glove for almost thirty years, ‘Ali’ still reigns supreme as the most iconic warrior in the sport’s history, taking 75% of votes in the www.williamhill.com online poll.
Welsh Dragon Joe Calzaghe polled second behind the famous American grabbing the runners-up spot, whilst controversial fighter Mike Tyson finished third with 5% of votes ahead of other icons such as Marvin Hagler, Sugar Ray Leonard, and Roberto Duran.
Nearly 2500 sports fans logged on to vote for their greatest Sporting Icons of all time, where alongside Ali, Sir Steven Redgrave, Roger Federer, and Tiger Woods were amongst the title winners.
The winner of each category will be honoured with a tribute in the new William Hill Sporting Icons Lounge due to open on Boxing Day, the first day of the William Hill Winter Festival.
