Boxing Insider’s Heavyweight Knockouts of 2012: Haye, Cameron, Price

Heavyweight Picks and Pans For 2012

by Johnny Walker

Over the next few days, we’ll be running our choices for the best and worst of boxing’s much maligned but still very much alive heavyweight division for 2012.

Today, we pick the knockouts of the year.

HEAVYWEIGHT KNOCKOUT OF THE YEAR, 2012

DAVID HAYE STOPS DERECK CHISORA

This category was a tough one to pick, but finally we settled on David Haye’s punishing knockout of tough-chinned Dereck Chisora, who had previously taken big punchers Robert Helenius and Vitali Klitschko the distance. Anyone who ever questioned Haye’s power had to be impressed by this one.

SHANE CAMERON BLASTS MONTE BARRETT

American veteran Monte “Two Gunz” Barrett was on something of a run in the land Down Under, having conquered local hero David “Tuamanator” Tua in his last fight (and arguably in both of their recent tilts, the previous one in America having been ruled a controversial draw).

Barrett then decided to take on another local, Shane “Mountain Warrior” Cameron, who Tua had easily destroyed back in 2009. After spending most of the build-up calling out Tua for a third fight, the distracted Barrett forgot that he needed to take care of business with Cameron, who had travelled to the UK to spar with Barrett conqueror David Haye.

Armed with some “tips” from Haye (who guaranteed a Cameron win), Cameron unloaded a vicious right hand that left Barrett in dreamland.

DAVID PRICE ANNIHILATES AUDLEY HARRISON

We include this one merely to show the fearsome power the giant Liverpudlian David Price possesses. No, he hasn’t fought anyone who might trouble him so far, but man, can this Price guy hit!
