Boxing Meets Broadway in The Cutting Den

NEW YORK, NY (JANUARY 13, 2010) – Ron Scott Stevens’ off-Broadway dramatic production, The Cutting Den, begins its three-week run on Feb 4 at the Soho Playhouse (15 Vandam) in NY, it was announced today by playwright Stevens. The six-character play stars Clyde Baldo and Marlo Marron, while former world middleweight champion Doug DeWitt also appears in a lead role. Award winning director Richard Caliban, fresh off his enormous success at Fringe Festival, will steer the production.

The Cutting Den is a modern day flood story set in a Brooklyn barbershop/bookie parlor during the first week of the Major League baseball season. When debts go unpaid sparks fly until the shop burns red-hot. More information about the play can be found at www.thecuttingdenoffbroadway.com

Students who show their ID at the box office can purchase tickets for a 20% discount. Evening performances are at 8 PM Tuesday-Saturday and matinees are at 3 PM on Saturday and Sunday. The play will run from Feb 4 -21.

Marlo Marron was the lead in the ABC primetime drama “Moon Over Miami” and earned critical acclaim for her performance in Mi Vida Loca, the Allison Anders film that went to the Cannes Film Festival. Clyde Baldo has acted in 40 plays, 20 films, 14 commercials, 10 radio plays and 4 TV network roles (“The Sopranos”, “Law and Order CI”, “Law and Order SVU”, and “Breaking Vegas, Balls Abromowitz”).
Doug “Cobra” DeWitt is a former world middleweight champion who fought some of his generation’s best fighters, including Hall of Famer Thomas Hearns and world champions James Toney, Milton McCrory, Nigel Benn, Matthew Hilton, and Sumbu Kalambay. On April 18, 1989, the Yonkers, NY middleweight reached the pinnacle of boxing success when he defeated Robbie Sims to win the world middleweight championship.

Since retiring DeWitt has acted in an assortment of roles on stage, television and film, and has even performed stand-up comedy. Among those who have seen DeWitt’s acting ability and have encouraged his work is Mickey Rourke.

Stewart Schneck has also appeared on the television programs 30 Rock, Law & Order, Teachers and KINGS, and has filmed commercials for Dick’s Sporting Goods, Time Warner Cable, and Maimonides Medical Center. His film credits include American Gangster; How to Seduce Beautiful Women; Fans Anonymous. He received the biggest award of his career in 2008 when two of his works were honored at the NY Television Festival. Graduates earned the People’s Choice Award, while The Captive snatched the award for Best Drama.

Bernard Feinerman is a 40-year acting veteran of the theater who studied theater at Oxford under the direction of the Royal Shakespeare Company and British theater legend Rosemary Harris. For four years he also hosted and produced his own radio program on WHBI-FM in New Jersey called The Sound Odyssey.

Robert Corban is a graduate of the Will Esper Studio and is also an acoustic guitarist and occasional song-writer. He has appeared in numerous theatrical productions.
