Cuban Star Rigondeaux Boxes In NYC Tonight!

Guillermo Rigondeaux, one of the most decorated fighters in the history of the amateur boxing system, is headed to the only city big enough to house his considerable talent. Rigondeaux will headline the December 16 edition of the DiBella Entertainment (“DBE”) Broadway Boxing Series from B.B. King Blues Club & Grill in the heart of Times Square in New York City .

On the undercard, DBE will showcase some of the brightest young prospects in the game, including a quartet of unbeaten fighters: heavyweight Tor Hamer, lightweight Joelo Torres, featherweight Luis Orlando Del Valle, and junior welterweight Gabriel Bracero.

Rigondeaux (3-0, 3 KOs), now fighting out of Miami, FL, won Olympic Gold for Cuba in 2000 and 2004 before defecting this past February. He has been a professional for less than seven months, but you wouldn’t know it by what he has already accomplished. In his last fight on September 18, Rigondeaux did battle with 71-fight veteran Giovanni Andrade in a bout aired on a special edition of ESPN2’s Friday Night Fights series. In his first fight with famed trainer Freddie Roach in his corner, it was Rigondeaux, with an amateur career than included more than 400 fights, looking the part of the seasoned veteran. He dropped Andrade twice en route to a third round stoppage and capturing the NABA super bantamweight title.

“A case could be made that Guillermo Rigondeaux is the most impressive amateur of all time,” said Lou DiBella, president of DBE. “Even after three pro fights, he has the type of talent that demands being showcased. New York City is the perfect place to get him out in front of the best boxing fans in the world.”

Rigondeaux’s opponent for Broadway Boxing is TBA.

Highly-touted Hamer (9-0, 7 KOs), of New York , NY , has been running roughshod through all comers in his young career. December 16 will mark his fourth appearance on Broadway Boxing where he has built a legion of fans mesmerized by his power, skill, and potential.

Torres (11-0-1, 7 KOs), of Guaynabo , Puerto Rico , has already fought twice in 2009 and has captivated fight fans with two first round knockouts. His last fight took place on DBE’s Broadway Boxing show in August where he picked apart Washington Hago in 1:49.

Del Valle (7-0, 5 KOs), fighting out of Newburgh , NY , is another Broadway Boxing veteran. Most recently, he fought on a special edition from the Robert Clemente Coliseum in San Juan , Puerto Rico , stopping Christopher Rivera inside three rounds.

Bracero (7-0), of Brooklyn , NY , is a protégé of legendary trainer Tommy Gallagher. Bracero, whose smooth skill wowed the crowd at BB King in August, is coming back and looking for a repeat performance.
