ESPN’s Friday Night Fights will originate from Uncasville Conn. where junior welterweight Breidis “Khanqueror” Prescott (23-2, 19 KO’s WBA #11, WBC #32) and 2008 U.S. Olympian junior middleweight Demetrius Andrade (12-0, 8 KO’s) are featured in co-main events at 8 p.m. ET live on ESPN3.com and ESPN Deportes. Friday’s show will be aired on ESPN2 at 10:30 p.m. ET with Joe Tessitore and Teddy Atlas ringside at Mohegan Sun Arena, describing the action.
Colombia’s Prescott, who made a big splash on the world boxing scene in August 2008 by obliterating Amir Khan in a lightweight fight, will meet Arlington’s “The Mongolian Mongoose” Bayan Jargal (15-1-3, 9 KO’s). His nickname – “Khanqueror” – refers to his first-round knockout win against Amir Khan in 2008. Prescott has won his last two fights, including an August 10-round decision against Harrison Cuello on ESPN’s Friday Night Fights.
After the fight on ESPN2, ESPN.com’s Dan Rafael wrote, “Prescott dominated the fight against Cuello. The biggest moment came in the ninth round when Prescott scored a flash knockdown when Cuello walked into a strong right hand, which Prescott had injured earlier in the bout. If Prescott keeps winning, he’ll probably get some kind of solid opportunity because he fights in a terrific weight class and has the notoriety of the knockout of Khan.”
Providence’s Andrade, who represented the United States in the 2008 Olympics, will meet Omar Bell (8-1, 5 KO’s). Andrade is coming off an eight-round January decision win against Albert Herrera on ESPN’s Friday Night Fights.
After the Herrera fight, Rafael wrote on ESPN.com, “Andrade cruised to the decision against Herrera. Many consider Andrade to be one of boxing’s elite prospects. He has tremendous potential and good size (6-foot-1) to go with speed (hands and feet) and obvious skills.”
Andrade said of Friday’s fight, “Omar Bell has a good record but my manager has a video of him and said that he isn’t really much. We just go one fight at a time. I’m young, I’m taking my time. Once it’s time for me to get up there with the big dogs, I’m going to be prepared. We don’t have time for mistakes right now. Every move has to be done the right way.”
Andrade who started boxing at an early age said, “It was just fun to me as a little kid – hitting the bags, fooling around, swinging on the bags, stuff like that. I’m an all-around boxer, all-around athlete. I can move, bang, slip and slide.”
