ESPN Friday Night Fights Results: Serrano and Andrade Stay Undefeated

ESPN brought another card featuring promising prospects to their fights fans at the Mohegan Sun in Connecticut. The fighters standing across the prospects had some pre fight issues. Angel Hernandez was a last minute replacement that most experts did not give much of a chance, and his health and ability to fight was questioned by those close to him. Kenny Abril came in overweight and had to give up part of his purse.

Raymond Serrano and Kenny Abril went the distance, and Serrano was able to survive a third round knockdown and land the cleaner shots throughout the rest of the bout to score the decision victory. Raymond Serrano wasn’t overly impressive, but he did more work and stayed the aggressor to win the close rounds. Serrano’s undefeated record stays intact and hopefully he takes a step up in competition next time he steps into the ring.

Demetrius Andrade made quick work of Angel Hernandez with a second round KO. Anything less than a KO victory for Demetrius Andrade would have been considered a disappointment, and Andrade did not disappoint. If there is some truth behind the health concerns of Hernandez, this should be his last fight ever.

Round by round results are as follows:

Raymond Serrano (17-0) vs. Kenny Abril (11-4); Junior Welterweight

Round 1:

Serrano comes out with an early jab left hook to the body. Abril tags Serrano with a jab, and the fighters quickly clinch. Serrano lands the first punch out of the clinch and begins stalking Serrano. Abril lands a quick right hook to the temple. Serrano lands a cross to the body. Abril slips a right cross from Serrano, and Serrano slips a combination from Abril. Serrano lands a hard uppercut to the body of Abril. Serrano continues his body attack near the corner. The referee warns Serrano to keep his punches above the belt line. Abril lands a decent lead left cross. Serrano lands some short hooks near the corner. Serrano continues to apply the pressure and lands a cross to the body and a nice cross upstairs. Seranno lands a left uppercut to the body. Serrano lands another right cross upstairs. Serrano started to land easier near the end of round 1. 10-9 for Serrano.

Round 2:

Serrano comes out and lands an early lead right hand to the head of Serrano. Serrano comes right back with another lead right cross upstairs. Abril connects with a right hook counter upstairs. The referee warns Serrano for a body shot to the back of Abril. Abril partially lands a lead right hook, and Serrano stabs a jab at the face of Abril. Serrano connects with a right cross in the middle of a combination by the corner. Serrano lands a right cross and a right uppercut on Abril by the ropes. Serrano lands a lead right hand to the body of Abril. Serrano connects with a short uppercut and straight right hand to the body again. Serrano lands a hard right uppercut to the body left hook to the head combination. Serrano flicks out a quick jab and has Abril stuck near the corner. Abril clinches with Serrano by the corner as the round comes to an end. 10-9 round for Serrano.

Round 3:

Serrano lands another early right cross and has Abril backed near a corner again. Abril misses with a left uppercut, but eats two right hooks from Serrano. Serrano comes forward with a double jab. Serrano lands two hooks to the body of Abril, and Abril barely misses with an uppercut. Serrano bangs another lead right cross at the defense of Abril. Abril ducks under a combination from Serrano. Serrano has Abril backed near another corner and lands a combination ending with a straight right hand. Serrano gets decked by Abril and Serrano falls to the ground from a quick jab. Abril was able to catch Serrano while he came forward recklessly. Serrano looks a little wobbly still. Serrano lands a hook to the body and right cross to the body again. 10-8 round for Abril.

Round 4:

Abril connects with an early right hook to the body. Serrano rushes forward again and may have head butt Abril. Serrano lands a hard right cross and they exchange combinations by the corner. Serrano attacks the body of Abril by the ropes again. Abril swings and comes forward but ties up again. Abril lands a jab but eats another straight right hand. Abril misses with a wild lead left hook. Serrano is circling towards Abril’s power hand. Abril lands a short left hook upstairs and a straight right hand. Serrano thuds two more hooks to the body of Abril. Serrano lands two hooks to the lower back of Abril but Abril turned around. Serrano lands a hard lead right hand near the end of the round. 10-9 round for Serrano.

Round 5:

Serrano comes forward and misses with a double jab right cross combination. Serrano lands two right crosses but eats a right hook in the process. Serrano connects with a lunging right hook to the body of Abril. Serrano lands a lunging left hook to the body of Abril. Serrano connects with a body head combination that Abril tries to shake off. Serrano comes forward with a double jab and tags Abril with a right hook at the end of it. Serrano thuds another straight right hand to the body of Abril. Serrano connects with a right hook to the body of Abril. Abril lands a jab and Serrano pushes Abril to the ground. Abril gets back to his feet and Serrano continues to stalk Abril. Serrano barely misses with a left hook, and Abril lands a jab as the bell rings. 10-9 round for Serrano.

Round 6:

Serrano continues to stalk Abril, and Abril lands a couple right hooks to the body. Abril barely misses with a lead left cross. Abril connects with a right uppercut to the body of Serrano. A lead right cross from Serrano backs Abril up. Abril lands a jab on Serrano, and is doing a better jab at staying out of the range of Serrano early on in the round. Serrano misses a wile hook, and Abril connects with another lead left hand. Serrano comes forward with a lead left hand to the body of Abril. Serrano leands in on Abril by the corner and digs some uppercuts to the body of Abril, and Abril comes back with a hook to the head of Serrano. They exchange combinations in the center of the ring and Abril gets the better of Serrano. Serrano digs another left and right hook to the body of Abril near the center of the ring. Serrano flurries with a three punch combination near the end of the round. 10-9 round for Abril.

Round 7:

Serrano comes back out behind his jab and has Abril backing near a corner early in the round. Serrano lands a left hook to the body and follows it with a two punch combination on Abril that is partially blocked. Serrano’s jab is blocked by Abril. Abril tries to come forward with a lead left cross to the body of Serrano. Serrano misses with a jab and partially clips Abril with a cross. Abril misses with a flick of his jab. Serrano pushes Abril near the ropes and lands a left hook to the body of Abril. Serrano lands some more shots to the lower back of Abril but Abril turned around again while Serrano was swinging. Serrano throws out two consecutive three punch combinations upstairs that partially land. Serrano easily slips a hook from Abril and connects a nice double jab. 10-9 round for Serrano.

Round 8:

Serrano comes out aggressive again in round eight, staying behind his double jab. Serrano steps out of the way of a double jab from Abril. Serrano using more feints this round. Abril misses a lead right hook and eats a hook from Serrano in the process. Serrano connects with a nice right uppercut left hook combination. Serrano tags Abril with another right cross, and barely misses with a two punch combination. Serrano with another double jab on Abril. Abril misses with a lead left hand but bangs a hook to the body of Serrano. Serrano lands another good right hook to the body of Abril. Serrano misses a two punch combination. Serrano connects with a good right cross on Abril, and Abril clinches in response. Abril pop shots Serrano with a left cross. 10-9 round for Serrano.

Round 9:

Serrano showing head movement and lands a quick jab to the head of Abril. Serrano lands a few short hooks to the body of Abril. Abril comes forward with a right hook to the body of Serrano that is partially blocked. Serrano ducks underneath hook from Abril, and Abril continues to circles away from Serrano. Serrano lunges forward with a lead left hook to the body of Abril. Abril with a short combination on Serrano’s body while they are clinched. Serrano punches his way out and lands a good jab cross combination. Serrano is picking his shots from the outside on Abril. Abril’s face is showing signs of wear and tear and is bruising up. Serrano continues to come forward with his jab and Abril is not showing much offense at all. Serrano lands a hook upstairs on Abril. 10-9 round for Serrano.

Round 10:

Abril clearly needs the knockout to win this fight. Serrano and Abril clinch early in the round and Serrano misses with a left hook upstairs. Serrano misses with a jab and right uppercut. Serrano comes forward with a right hand to the body of Abril. Serrano lands a jab and misses with a right corss to the head of Abril. Serrano ducks out of the way of a hook form Abril and lands a few jabs to the head of Abril. Serrano bangs a combo at the defense of Abril. Serrano lands another right hook to the body of Abril. Surprisingly a lot of clinching from Abril in the last round. Serrano lands another jab cross combination on Abril as he clinches in response. Clinching this time was from Serrano as Abril complains to the referee. Abril tries to let his hands go but doesn’t land any clean punches. Abril connects with a good right uppercut and Serrano comes back with a 1-2 combo. Abril fires off some more shots at the end of the round but doesn’t land cleanly. 10-9 round for Abril because he was more aggressive.

Demetrius Andrade (15-0) vs. Angel Hernandez (30-10); Junior Middleweight

Round 1:

Hernandez and Andrade come out to the center of the ring and Andrade has an obvious large height advantage. Andrade and Hernandez are using a lot of early feints, and they exchange shots in close. Hernandez clinches with Andrade, and then they separate. Andrade catches Hernandez with two quick check right hooks. Andrade comes forward with two left crosses, and tags Hernandez with a jab. Andrade ducks under a Herndez hook and lands a right hook of his own and a hard right uppercut and straight left hand. Hernandez goes bouncing off the ropes and begins to swing wildly and bulrushes Andrade. Andrade lands another short right hook and barely misses with a left uppercut. Hernandez lands a surprisingly hard right hand, and they both land crosses after the end of round 1. 10-9 round for Andrade.

Round 2:

Andrade comes forward with a jab and cross combo that partially lands. Hernandez misses with a cross. Andrade flicks out two quick jabs and lands a left cross to the body of Hernandez. They clinch near the center of the ring and exchange shots in close. Andrade lands a hard left uppercut and a right hook upstairs. Hernandez falls to the ground and the referee gives him a standing eight count. Hernandez clinches with Andrade in the center of the ring and Andrade lands a vicious left hand and a body shot causes Hernandez to crumble to the ground. The referee rightly calls the fight off as Andrade scores the KO victory.
