Former middleweight champ Kelly Pavlik, who has been battling alcohol addiction, has apparently been boozing once again.
According to a report in www.vindy.com, police were called when a brawl broke out between Pavlik, 29, and his brother Michael Pavlik Jr., 35, at their parents’ home in Youngstown, Ohio, last Friday night.
The police report states that the boxer “punched the west-facing side door of the home and pulled his brother, Michael, out of the broken window.” The brothers had been drinking at the time of the altercation, according to the report.
Michael Pavlik Jr. sustained minor injuries, but refused medical treatment and also declined to press charges against his brother.
Kelly Pavlik spent two months in the Betty Ford Center to deal with alcohol addiction and was released in January, 2011. His brother Michael has had run-ins with the law, serving a jail sentence in 2009 for misdemeanor domestic violence.
Pavlik made a boxing comeback in May with a victory over Alfonso Lopez at super middleweight. He is next scheduled to fight Darryl Cunningham in Youngstown on August 6, with a shot at super middleweight champ Lucian Bute in the offing after that.
According to the news report, Pavlik’s trainer Jack Loew was unaware of the altercation between the Pavlik brothers as of Monday, and Pavlik declined to return phone calls regarding the incident.
