First Boxing Memory: “Losing my first amateur fight. I remember I tried to make 70 pounds. I made 70 1/2 so I had to fight at the
next level – 75 – against a kid that beat me [laughs]. That was my first amateur fight.”

Boxing Inspirations: “As a fighter – Julio Cesar Chavez. In life – my family.”

Motivation: “Well, I guess, nobody wants to lose. So when I’m up in that ring, I don’t want to lose. I naturally want to keep winning.”

Hobbies/Leisure Activities: “I make music, help my brothers with their band. I like dancing.”

Favorite Movies: “300, Moulin Rouge and Beowulf.”

Last Book Read: “I don’t know, can’t remember the name of it. I don’t read that much, it was a while back.”

Musical Tastes: “Hy3rid, reggaeton and rock, Calle 13 and Eminem.”

Most Painful Moment: “When I lost against – my first loss against Ishe Smith.”

Embarrassing Boxing Memory: “When I lost my chance to make the Olympics because of my lack of discipline. (What happened?) I had a girlfriend, didn’t train, I went to fight – I was one fight short of actually going to the Olympics. I lost.”

Toughest Part Of Boxing: “The discipline. The fact that, when I was a teenager, I couldn’t be a teenager. You know, the typical girlfriends, slumber parties, drinking. I couldn’t be a teenager. But that’s all right [smiles].”

Last Vacation: “I went to Big Bear.”

What Would You Be If You Weren’t A Successful Pro Boxer: “I would be a successful actor.”

Toughest Opponent: “Jesse Feliciano. Because I hit him with everything I had in all three of our fights – and he just kept coming. He just kept coming and coming and coming and I hit him to the body and to the head. And he just wouldn’t go down. Definitely one of my toughest fights. And Peter Manfredo.”

Favorite Boxers To Watch: “Kelly Pavlik. He’s a good fighter. Because he fights. I like Manny Pacquiao, he’s the best fighter. And De La Hoya too.”

People Qualities Most Admired: “I just like people that don’t follow trends or don’t follow what other people say. I like people that are their own. My favorite trait is when somebody is their own. When everybody wants to do something, he does what he wants to do. That’s important to me.”
