Hasim Rahman Injured, Fight With Alexander Povetkin Cancelled

By Johnny Walker

A fight that was troubled from the beginning between WBA “regular” heavyweight champion Alexander Povetkin and mandatory challenger Hasim Rahman has now apparently been called off for good.

The bout was originally scheduled to take place on the undercard of the Dereck Chisora vs David Haye heavyweight grudge match on July 14 in London, England. But due to problems with TV scheduling and other matters, the fight had been moved back and forth between England and Germany, and before being cancelled was scheduled to take place in Hamburg on the same date as Chisora vs Haye.

Reports indicate that Rahman suffered a hand injury, forcing him to withdraw from the bout.
