Robert Helenius (16-0, 11 KOs) and Dereck Chisora (15-1, 9 KOs) will clash for the vacant European Heavyweight Title in Helsinki, Finland on December 3. Having knocked out former world champions Lamon Brewster, Samuel Peter and Siarhei Liakhovich, the “Nordic Nightmare” is determined to destroy yet another big name. Some 8,000 tickets have already been sold for the event at the renowned Hartwall Areena, which will also host the WBA Heavyweight Title fight between newly-crowned champion Alexander Povetkin and Cedric Boswell. “We are thrilled to put on the most exciting heavyweight bill in years,” promoter Kalle Sauerland said. “A World title and a European title fight on the same night in one of Europe´s best arenas – that is as good as it gets.”
Together with German star coach Ulli Wegner, Helenius is preparing in the solitude of Zinnowitz, a small village on an island in the Baltic Sea. “I will put on a great fight on December 3,” he stated. “Chisora is a very dangerous opponent. He has not been Klitschko´s challenger for no reason. But I am sure I will catch him sooner or later.”
Helenius believes the backing of his patriotic fans will be key. “Their
support has always been fantastic,” he stated. “They raised the roof
last November when I defeated Attila Levin before the Super Six clash
between Abraham and Froch. This time, they will be even louder and lift
me to victory. I will be the new European champion on December 3!”
Meanwhile, Chisora has promised to put the local hero down and out.
“He’s called the Nordic Nightmare, but he’ll be having nightmares about me for the rest of his life after I’ve left him flat out on the canvas,” he stated. “I’m surprised Helenius’ people wanted me to fight their unbeaten golden boy, they must be going on my performance in my last fight and think I’m easy pickings. Believe me, this is the biggest mistake they have made with his career and I’ll be going over to Finland to knock him clean out.
And he added: “I’ll be fit and ready for this fight like never before, it’s the big fight I need to really get my juices flowing and performing like I know I can. I can’t wait for December 3 and winning that European title and bringing it back to Britain.”
