IBF Cruiserweight champion Tomasz Adamek is now a boxing superstar after his latest thrilling win on Showtime before a packed house against Johnathon Banks. And as is typical for a hot commodity in the sport of boxing, Adamek has plenty of options to consider.
One intriguing option is a clash with living legend Bernard Hopkins. “Hopkins wants the fight,” said Adamek mananger Ziggy Rozalski. “Tomasz wants to do it. We’re considering it. But we have all the options. We could look at a giant fight in Poland because Adamek is a big star in Poland. Steve Cunningham wants to fight. We’re looking at the best offer. We would consider Hopkins definitely. If it can be made, we’ll do it.”
Besides his natural capacity for always being in exciting fights, the modest Adamek has developed a huge fan-base in the United States because it is clear the Pole is fearless and does not shy away from difficult optional challengers, such as Banks and Chad Dawson.
“He doesn’t care who the opponent is, he’s confident he can win,” says Rozalski. “If we put together Klitschko, he’ll fight Klitschko. He doesn’t care.”
Hopkins, who once signed to fight James Toney at 190 but had his offer slashed in half, effectively killing the fight, is a similarly fearless totally confident warrior like Adamek, which could make a Adamek-Hopkins showdown a blockbuster event of 2009.
Can Hopkins, the ageless wonder, add a new world title to his vast legacy? Can the rising force Adamek become the first man to decisively and convincingly handle The Executioner? You can be sure of one thing, you’ll get no Mayweather-esque excuses or artful dodging when it comes to these two real deal champions.
