Perhaps Jose Canseco has been paying attention to the “guess which one you’re fighting?” deals the heavyweight champion Klitschko brothers have been making lately with the likes of Tomasz Adamek and David Haye.
According to MCT News Service, Canseco and his twin brother Ozzie apparently pulled a classic switcheroo last Saturday night in Hollywood, California, as it became apparent that the least famous of the two siblings showed up for a celebrity boxing match that was supposed to feature the ex-baseball slugger turned steroid whistle-blower.
Apparently promoter Damon Feldman first became suspicious when it was pointed out by fans that the man who showed up to fight was minus Jose’s trademark body art – no tattoos, in other words.
A “bait and switch” is how Feldman depicted the situation, which became even more interesting when the promoter received a text message before the fight that demanded the fighter (ostensibly Jose) be paid $5000 in cash before he stepped into the squared circle that night.
“You have to pay him,” read the message from Jose.
Ooops.
“I was confused by why he wrote ‘him,’ ” an exasperated Feldman said. “Who would’ve thought he would’ve sent someone else?”
Feldman now feels that he has been defrauded and wants the $5000 advance he paid Jose Canseco for the fight returned.
Canseco, for his part, remains undaunted, taking to his Twitter account to advise the world, “”Be very careful with Damon feldman who runs celebrity boxing he will not pay you if you fight for him.”
Well, he won’t pay just anyone who shows up to fight, at least!
