Patrick Majewski Overcomes Nasty Gash To Beat Latif Mundy

By Eugene Sirota

Resorts Casino & Hotel’s Superstar Theatre in Atlantic City was the venue for the first co-promotional effort between Global Boxing and Peltz Promotions. The night saw six highly competitive bouts featuring an interesting mix of Polish imports and young local prospects.

In the main event, Atlantic City-based, Radom, Poland native Patrick Majewski (20-1, 13 KOs) overcame a nasty gash over his left eye to take a majority decision over tough Philadelphian Latif Mundy (10-5, 4 KOs) in an entertaining ten round middleweight tilt.

With blood streaming down his face from the fourth round on, Majewski walked his opponent down and peppered him with straight rights. While on the inside, Mundy was able to do work with short combos, opening and worsening the cut; however those shots were too few and far between and the Philly brawler was unable match the work rate “The Machine” Majewski had set down the stretch. The final scores from the judges read: 100-90, 98-92, 95-95.

In the highly anticipated co-feature Atlantic City, veteran Shamone Alvarez (21-6, 12 KOs) was stunned by the young DeCarlo Perez (8-2-1, 3 KOs) in their junior middleweight showdown. After weathering an early Alvarez onslaught, Perez calmly picked Alvarez apart from the outside. Halfway through the third, a straight right put Alvarez on shaky legs and Perez jumped all over him. Alvarez was unable to protect himself; forcing Lindsay Page called a halt the contest via TKO at 2:01 of the third scheduled for eight.

After a brief feeling out period in the opening round, the haymakers stated flying from both sides as Barranquitas, PR’s Emmanuel Colon (3-0, 3 KOs) battled Philly’s Hasan Young (1-1-1) in what was scheduled to be a six round junior welterweight clash.

The two fought tooth and nail for three solid rounds until Young seemed to tire and slow midway through the fourth. Sensing his opponent was in danger, Colon kept Young pinned on the ropes until Referee Benji Estevez had seen enough to award Colon the victory by TKO. Some would call the stoppage quick.

Polish national amateur champion, Patryk Szymanski (2-0, 1 KO) of Zyweic, was successful in his first bout stateside after making his pro debut in Puerto Rico in June. The young Pole used a noticeable height and reach advantage to out box ACPD officer Adrian Wilson Jr. (0-1) en route to a four round unanimous decision.

Poznan, Poland’s Michal Chudecki (1-0, 1 KO) made the journey across the Atlantic to make his pro debut against Bridgeton, NJ’s Moses Molina (1-1, 1 KO) in a four-rounder. Chudecki was the stronger of the two junior lightweights, as he bullied his American foe around the ring and pounded him with combinations when he had him against the ropes. Referee Benji Estevez stepped in to halt the bout with 40 seconds to go in the third and Molina in danger in a neutral corner.

In the opening bout, Cherry Hill’s Anthony Prescott (1-1, 1 KO) dropped a hard fought decision to Philadelphian debutant Terrell James (1-0). James was able to fight back after being stunned in the first, going to the body often in to take the four round welterweight contest by the score of 39-37 (x3).
