Paul Williams Has High Praise For Pacquiao

Paul Williams is a good guy. He is very accessible for the media and always approachable for fans when he attends small club shows in the Washington DC area during training camps. Though he is a superstar in boxing now, Paul Williams still remains a decent, polite, friendly and honorable man. And respectful towards future opponents, who he hopes one day soon will be Manny Pacquiao or Floyd Mayweather.

“I think Pacquiao will give me the opportunity,” says the three-time world champion from Augusta, GA. “But I don’t think Mayweather will give me the opportunity. He already said I’m too big. He fights guys that he bigger than. I feel if I make the weight, it’s good. If I make the weight we agree on, you should fight the guy. I don’t think he’ll give me a shot. I think Pacquiao has more guts to give me a shot, more than (Floyd).”

Williams says he has no problem making 147 and insists he will “make my way back down to the low 150s and we’re gonna get in the mix with those guys.”

While both Pacquiao and Mayweather are excellent yet totally different fighters, Williams would prefer to fight the Superman from Manila. “Because he’s more hot right now. Pacquiao’s more hot. Mayweather I respect what he’s been doing – they’re both good guys – but Pacquiao right now – he hot. He’s real hot. He’s been beating everybody, going through ’em, and he throws a lot of punches. So I’d like to put my skills against his skills. And there’d be a whole lot of punches in that fight.”

As a student of the game with his own unique, technical style, I next asked Williams who he figured would win a clash between Pacquiao and Mayweather? “I feel like if Pacquiao fight Mayweather, Pacquiao will get him. If he try to box Mayweather, I see Mayweather. Mayweather is a real slick boxer and stuff. You gotta fight him. Like Castillo did in the first fight. That’s how I see it.”
