Peltz Boxing Results: MMA Champion Wins Pro Debut, Cruz Defeats Conyers In a War

Peltz Boxing brought a card filled with local talent to Bally’s Casino in Atlantic City featuring a main event with undefeated welterweight Ronald Cruz. The undercard featured the pro debut of Jeff Lentz, a professional MMA fighter who’s fought under the Ring of Combat and Bellator banner and is the featherweight champion of Ring of Combat. He obliterated his opponent in the first round with a TKO victory, despite having fought MMA only two weeks ago. The grandson of Jersey Joe Walcott, Luis Cream, was on the undercard as he took on a fellow Camden native Miguel Corcino. The bout contained some hard hitting shots and had the crowd on its feet at multiple times throughout the bout as Cream pulled out the victory. The undercard also featured a marriage proposal, an Antowyan Aikens proposed to his girlfriend immediately after his victory, and she accepted.

The co-main event of the night featured a battle between friends and sparring partners, Garrett Wilson and Pedro Martinez. Wilson tried to find his range early on, and unloaded a vicious flurry in the third round to knock Martinez down. When Martinez got back to his feet, the referee waved off the fight as he was hurt badly. Undefeated prospect Ronald Cruz took on Allen Conyers in the main event of tonight’s card. Cruz controlled the majority of the fight, but had to survive an onslaught of punches from Conyers in round five as he was hurt badly. Cruz won a clear decision, but had a tougher time with Conyers than expected.

Undercard Quick Results:

Korey Pritchett (1-1) vs. Korey Sloane (2-2); Junior Welterweight

Korey Pritchett wins with official scores of 39-37 for Pritchett, 39-37 for Sloane, and 39-37 for Pritchett.

Charles Kirby (1-5) vs. Antowyan Aikens (3-0); Junior Middleweight

Antowyan Aikens wins with official scores of 40-36, 40-36, and 39-37. After the fight was over, Antowyan Aikens asked his girlfriend to marry him in front of the crowd, and she said yes.

Jeff Lentz (0-0) vs. David Navarro (1-4); Welterweight

Jeff Lentz destroys David Navarro by 1st round TKO at 2:34.

Luis Cream (2-0) vs. Miguel Corcino (3-1); Welterweight

Luis Cream wins by unanimous decision with scores of 40-35, 39-36, and 40-35.

Rafael Montalvo (1-1) vs. DeCarlo Perez (6-1); Welterweight

Rafael Montalvo upset Decarlo Perez with a second round TKO at 2:33

Main Card Round by Round Results:

Garrett Wilson (11-5-1) vs. Pedro Martinez (6-4); Cruiserweight

Round 1:

Martinez and Wilson come out to the center of the ring and Martinez takes the center of the ring and Wilson stays on the outside. Wilson moves out of the way of a jab from Martinez. Martinez comes forward with a two punch combination but does not land anything. Wilson lands a left hook as Martinez comes forward. Wilson connects with a right cross. Martinez attacks with a body combination, and Wilson thuds two jabs at the nose of Martinez. Wilson thuds another jab at the nose of Martinez. Wilson lands a short right uppercut to the chin of Martinez. Wilson comes forward and lands a short left hook, and they tie up. Close round, 10-9 for Wilson.

Round 2:

Wilson lands two hard left hooks, and attacks with a combination near the ropes. They tie up and Wilson lands some short hooks to the body. Martinez connects with a decent left hook. Wilson glances a hard left hook off the temple of Martinez. Martinez is starting to show head movement, but eats a jab from Wilson. Wilson thuds another jab in the face of Martinez. Wilson ducks under a hook from Martinez, and lands a good hard uppercut in response. Both fighters are exchanging shots in close and tight, and Wilson bangs two hooks off the face of Martinez. Wilson is doing some good damage on Martinez by the ropes. Wilson lands a vicious two punch combination that rocks Martinez, and Martinez hangs on for dear life. Martinez is able to buy himself some time by holding on, but eats an over the top right hand when they release. 10-9 round for Wilson.

Round 3:

Martinez leads with a left hook, and Wilson attacks in close and lands some very hard shots as Martinez goes down by the ropes. The referee begins to give him a standing eight count but notices Martinez is hurt badly and stops the fight.

Allen Conyers (12-5) vs. Ronald Cruz (15-0); Welterweight

Round 1:

Cruz and Conyers come out to the center of the ring, and Cruz stays on the outside. Conyers throws a few range finding jabs as he tries to find his target. Cruz easily slips a jab from Conyers. Cruz gets tagged with a check left hook as he tries to come in. Cruz lands a lead left hook and a right hook to the body of Conyers. Conyers is unable to find his range with his jab. Conyers connects with a lead straight right upstairs. Cruz backs up from an onslaught by Conyers and is trapped near the ropes. Cruz connects with a right cross to the body of Conyers and a left hook upstairs. Cruz connects with a hook at the end of the round and falls after the bell rings. 10-9 round for Cruz.

Round 2:

Cruz lands an early left hand and an over the top right hand. Cruz stabs a jab at the body of Conyers. Cruz comes back with a two punch combination, as he looks to take advantage of Conyers being hurt at the end of round one. Cruz connects with a lead right hand. Conyers misses with a wild two punch combination. Cruz lands a flush jab in the nose of Conyers. Cruz flicks another jab at the face of Conyers, but Conyers partially lands with a right uppercut. A right hand connects for Conyers, as he looks to have his legs back from last round. Cruz keeps his guard up, and stalks Conyers, but Conyers connects with a counter straight right hand. Cruz connects with a nice body head combination. Another straight right hand finds its home for Cruz. 10-9 round for Cruz.

Round 3:

Conyers flicks out his jab and connects with an early straight right hand. Cruz lands a solid left hook upstairs near the ropes, and follows it with a right hook to the body. Another over the head left hand connects for Cruz. Cruz catches Conyers with two check left hooks he tries to come forward. Cruz comes forward with another lead straight left. Conyers stings Cruz with a straight right punch. Conyers leads with a straight right hand. Cruz sticks a jab in the face of Conyers, and Cruz momentarily traps Conyers by the corner with some hard body shots. 10-9 round for Conyers.

Round 4:

The crowd is largely behind Ronald Cruz. Conyers stays behind his jab and uses it to keep Cruz at bay. Cruz lands an over the top right hand. A left hook to the body lands for Cruz. Conyers bangs a hard straight right hand off the temple of Cruz. Cruz easily slips two jabs from Conyers. Cruz lands a decent right hand to the body of Conyers. Conyers comes forward with a two punch combination that partially lands. Cruz is constantly switching from orthodox stance to southpaw stance, and lands a few decent straight left hands. Cruz is backed into a corner, and lands a few lead left hands to the body of Conyers. Close round, 10-9 for Cruz.

Round 5:

Cruz stabs a jab at the body of Conyers. Conyers has two jabs blocked by Cruz. Conyers stays behind his jab and backs Cruz up. Cruz lands a good right hand to the body, but the referee warns him for a low blow. Cruz glances a right hook of the head of Conyers. Cruz misses with some wild hooks to the body. Cruz continues his assault to the body of Conyers. Cruz dodges out of the way of an uppercut from Conyers. Conyers lands a right corss on Cruz, and a hard right hook. Conyers has Cruz momentarily trapped near a corner and lands a good right hook and left hook upstairs that may have hurt Cruz. Cruz tries to punch his way out of danger but eats some hard shots from Conyers. Conyers continues to viciously attack Cruz by the corner and the crowd is on its feet as Cruz takes a beating. 10-9 for Conyers.

Round 6:

Conyers flicks out a few more jabs, and lands an uppercut to the body of Cruz. Conyers looks a lot more confident this round than earlier rounds and lands some hard shots to the body of Cruz. Cruz lands three soft jabs in a row. Conyers lands a hard right hand, but Cruz comes back and answers with two hard shots of his own. Conyers is starting to throw a lot more harder shots, but eats an over the top right hand from Cruz. Conyers keeps his jab in the face of Cruz and stays on the outside. Cruz lands a good combination on Conyers by the ropes. Cruz lands another over the top right hand, and hits a combination on the body of Conyers. Conyers looks hurt by the corner and Cruz comes forward with a hard three punch combination. Cruz sticks another straight right hand at the body of Conyers. Cruz continues to assault Conyers from corner to corner, and lands a very hard left hook as the round ends. 10-9 round for Cruz.

Round 7:

Cruz lands a thudding right hand and follows it up with a vicious attack by the ropes. Cruz connects by the ropes again and Conyers looks to be close to being finished. Conyers connects with a left hook to the body, and Cruz has Conyers backing up as he connects with wild hooks to the temple. Cruz lands another lead left hand to the chin. Conyers lands an uppercut and a hook. Cruz keeps his guard up high and Conyers pop shots him from the outside. Cruz lands a decent hook to the body of Conyers, and a nice combination upstairs. 10-9 round for Cruz.

Round 8:

Cruz bangs two more hooks at the body of Conyers. Cruz connects with a hook upstairs. Conyers stays busy with his jab, and bangs a left hook and a jab at the guard of Cruz. Cruz sticks another jab at the face of Conyers. Conyers eats a straight left hand and a jab from Cruz. Conyers misses with two jabs, and circles away. Not much action so far this round. Cruz thuds a hook to the body of Conyers. Cruz lands a good left hook on Conyers at his temple. 10-9 round for Conyers, as he was able to land some decent jabs.

Round 9:

Cruz comes out attacking the body of Conyers, but a right hook from Conyers stops him in his track. Cruz stabs a few jabs at the body of Conyers, and Conyers bangs a left hook off the defense of Cruz. Cruz sticks a right cross in the gut of Conyers. Cruz lands a good over the top right on Conyers, and connects with noather one by the corner. Cruz bangs another hook off the guard of Conyers. Cruz connects with a left hook to the body of Conyers. Conyers lands a jab on Cruz. Cruz barely misses with a wild left hook. Cruz lands a soft jab, and ducks under a hook from Conyers. Cruz lands a straight right hand and a left hook upstairs that sends Conyers walking backwards. 10-9 round for Cruz.

Round 10:

Cruz connects with an early left hook to the body and an over the top right hand. Conyers flicks out a few jabs, and eats a right hook to the body. Conyers connects with a two punch combination that partially gets through the guard of ruz. Cruz attacks the body of Conyers and sends him backwards again. Cruz hurts Conyers with a right hand, and Conyers clinches to stall the attack. Cruz stabs another jab in the face of Conyers, but eats two left hooks to the body in the process. Conyers lands a solid right uppercut that stops Cruz dead in his tracks. Conyers lands another hard right hand on Cruz. Cruz misses with a wild right hand, but lands a straight right to the body. Cruz catches Conyers with a right hook as Conyers tries to back away. Cruz is applying the pressure this round, and slips to his knees as the round ends. 10-9 round for Cruz.
