By: William Holmes, Ringside

Peltz Boxing had another event at Bally’s Casino in Atlantic City tonight with a seven bout card featuring junior middleweight fight between Jamaal Davis and Eberto Medina, and also a featured bout between Chuck Mussachio and Bill Bailey in the light heavyweight division.

The first bout of the night was between Korey Pritchett (2-1) and David Gonzales (0-0) in the junior welterweight division.

It was a close bout with both fighters not giving an inch to each other. Gonzales appeared to control the earlier part of the bout, but Pritchett never wavered in attacking and came on strong in the fourth round. At the end, the judges felt that Gonzales did enough for victory, all three judges scoring it 39-37 for David Gonzales.

The next bout of the night was between Louis Robinson (2-4-1) and Todd Unthank-May (3-0) in the light heavyweight division.

Robinson had undefeated heavyweight contender Bryant Jennings in his corner, but it was Unthank-May who showed the potential to be a possible star in the future. Unthank-May blistered Robinson with two punch combinations through the first three rounds and Robinson offered little in response. Robinson, however, came on strong in the fourth round and started to open up with his punches, momentarily stunning nthank-May. Unthank-May however regained his composure and was able to send Robinson stumbling backwards towards the ropes to score a knockdown.

Unthank-May remained undefeated with scores of 40-35, 40-34, and 40-35.

Ibrihim Shabazz (0-1-1) and Miguel Corcino (3-2) were up next in the welterweight division.

Shabazz is a southpaw residing from Newark, NJ, and Corcino fought orthodox and hailed from Camden, NJ. It was a close fight, with Corcino appeared to win a tight first round and Shabazz showed more effective counter-punching in the second round. Shabazz balsted Corcino with a left hook by the corner in the third round that momentarily stunned him. Shabazz continued to pound Corcino in the fourth round and dug in a brutal right uppercut to the body.

Shabazz won with official scores of 39-37, 40-36, and 39-37.

The next bout of the night was in the super middleweight division between Roberto Yong (4-4-1) and Fred Jenkins, Jr. (5-0).

Yong’s record was deceiving, and he staggered Jenkins at the end of the first round. Jenkins was able to connect with a few straight right hands, but Yong was never affected, and dropped Jenkins in the third round with a two punch combination. Jenkins was able to get up before the 10 count, but spent the rest of the round on his bike in an attempt to avoid the assault of Yong. Yong dropped Jenkins again at the end of the fourth round, and Jenkins barely beat the count to rise to his feet. The ring side doctor wisely stopped the fight, and Yong got the fourth round TKO victory.

Korey Sloane (2-3-1) took on Justin Johnson (2-3-3) in the swing bout of the night in the junior welterweight division.

It was a close bout, and Sloane used his jab effectively, which played to the height advantage that he had. However, Johnson was able to get inside at times and land some effective punches to the body. The official scores reflected the close fight and difficulty in scoring the fight, as two judges saw it 39-37 for Johnson, and one 39-37 for Sloane.

The last fight before the main event was between Wildwood, NJ native Chuck Mussachio (17-2-2) and Bill Bailey (11-14) in the light heavyweight division.

Mussachio established his jab early, and cracked Bailey with a punch in the second round that caused him to touch the canvas with his glove, giving Mussachio a knockdown. By the start of the fourth round, Bailey’s right eye was nearly closed shut, and from then on he had no answer for the jabs and punches by Mussachio from the outside. There was no doubt who the winner was when the official scores were announced of 79-72, 78-73, and 78-73.

The main event of the night was between Jamaal Davis (12-8-1) and Eberto Medina (6-7-1) in the junior middleweight division.

Medina was a last minute replacement for Harry Yorgey, who injured his shoulder and had to get surgery. Davis and Medina last fought in 2011, which saw Davis score a split decision victory. This fight was another very, very, close one. Medina started out strong and fought like a man who had everything to lose. The fight featured exciting exchanges, and Medina had his mouthpiece fall out several times. Davis, however, closed out very strong in the last round, and the official scores were 76-76, 77-75, and 77-75 for Jamaal Davis.
