Québec Scene: David Lemieux, Dierry Jean, Kevin Lavallee & More!

The card for Groupe Yvon Michel’s October 12th “Fast and Furious” gala has nearly been finalized.

In addition to the main event featuring Adonis “Superman” Stevenson and Donovan “Da Bomb” George in an IBF super middleweight title eliminator, hard hitting David Lemieux (26-2, 25 KOs), returns to action against Mexico’s Alvaro “The Cobra” Gaona (15-1, 12 KOs) in a bout scheduled for 10 rounds.

Lemieux, who snapped a a 2-fight losing streak in June with a TKO victory over Jaudiel Zepeda, hopes to build off that momentum.

“Last weekend I was excited watching boxers in my division like (Sergio) Martinez, (Julio) Chavez Jr. and (Matthew) Macklin,” said the Laval native in GYM’s presser.

“I thought that is the level I want to be fighting at and as soon as possible. I know I’m not there, yet, but I am neglecting nothing, personally or professionally to get there. I assure you that I am not so too far away.”

In Gaona, Lemieux will face the WBC’s current Fecombox champ, who has fought professionally since 2005.

Rounding out the stacked card will be Eleider “Storm” Alvarez (9-0, 5 KOs) vs. Daniel Regi (15-6, 7 KOs); Kevin Bizier (17-0, 12 KOs) vs. Patryk Litkiewicz (6-0, 3 KOs) Oscar “Kaboom” Rivas (11-0, 6 KOs) vs. Joey Dawejko (7-1-1, 3 KOs); John O’Donnell (25-2, 11 KOs) vs. Tomas Mendez (15-2, 9 KOs); and Didier Bence (5-0, 2 KOs) vs. Joseph Harris (11-13, 8 KOs).

On October 26th, Camille Estephan’s Eye of the Tiger Management will return with the third installment its popular “Fight Club” series.

Again set to take place at the Holiday Inn Pointe-Claire, the show will feature the return of 140 lb. contender Dierry Jean (22-0, 14 KOs) who is currently rated 6th by the WBC as its NABF belt holder. On the night, Jean will defend his belt in a 12 round contest against Mexico’s Ivan Cano (21-4, 14 KOs).

In the evening’s co-feature, Ghislain Maduma (10-0, 6 KOs) will battle Brazilian veteran Sidney Siqueira (19-6-1, 10 KOs) in an an 8 round attraction.

Also set to see action against opposition to be determined are local favorites Ahmad Cheikho, Baha Laham, Schiller Hyppolite, Steven Wilcox, Andrew Gardiner, and Mian Hussain.

Finally, this weekend at the Chapiteau CCSI Maisonneuve in Montréal, Douggy Berneche (Club de Boxe de l’Est) will present his final gala of the season, headlined by Montéal’s Kevin Lavallee (10-0-1) who returns to take on Mexico’s Isaac Bejarano (9-12-1, 7 KOs).

In the evening’s co-feature, Québec middleweight prospect Francesco Cotroni (5-1, 3 KOs) will face Hungarian Antal Kubicsek (20-30-5, 6 KOs) in a 6-rounder.

Rounding out the rest of the card will be Stephane Tessier vs. Taffo Asongwed; Andrew Gardiner vs. Gabor Zsalek; Francois Miville vs. Dale Golden; Steve Lantagne vs. Michel Tsalla; Marc Pagcaliwangan vs. Gerald Audate; and Glisandy Mejia vs. Patrick Guerin.
