Quotes From Today’s Conference Call With George Foreman and Bernard Hopkins To Discuss Hopkins’ Attempt To Break
Foreman’s Record To Become The Oldest Fighter In History To Win A Significant World Title

Foreman: “Hopkins can do it — he knocked out Trinidad, he can beat ANYBODY.
“Hopkins is probably the only one who could break the record!

“The first fight is going to have to be erased, the decision wasn’t quality. I think Hopkins thought he should’ve got the KO.

“It’s all about pride, that’s about it. Pride in yourself, your community, your family and boxing. That’s our similarities.

“Hopkins is bringing forth a little class & endurance; people are saying he can do it. Holyfield, people say he should quit.

“Larry Holmes once told me — ‘George, you can do it. If I had your punch there would be no question I’d do it.’

“I really wanted to come back into boxing to regain my wealth, but I wanted to come back and be sure there was integrity in it.

“Another obstacle no one talks about is the tendency to look at the younger fighter as a KID, you have to see them as a competitor.

“Hopkins is a thinking man fighter. I didn’t realize that until Trinidad. He’s the last truly thinking man fighter. He thinks while he’s active in the ring, he doesn’t wait for the corner to tell him what to do, he’s THINKING.

“Hopkins MUST get a knockout — this record will not be broken on a unanimous decision, it MUST be a KO.

“When I won that fight, I had grandchildren coming – I was the heavyweight champion of the world and I was a grandfather.

“When you attempt something like this, you can’t look in the mirror and see a guy who’s aged. You have to have confidence.

“There was no way I could’ve been in the record books if I didn’t go for the KO, Hopkins has got it, he just has to do it.

“I thought my record would last a lot longer, but Hopkins is just the one to do it. He’s a great fighter.
