Monday, October 25, 2008, Pensacola, FL — Roy Jones Jr, has been training in California, PA. located in the hill country, 25 miles south of Pittsburgh, This past weekend Roy returned to Pensacola, which he has done for every big fight that he has trained away from home, to see family and friends before taking on undefeated Joe Calzaghe on Nov. 8th at Madison Square Garden.

After training on Friday, Jones boarded a private jet bound for Pensacola. That evening Roy attended a ring card girl contest at Club Aqua, about 30 miles east of Pensacola. The winners received an all-expense paid trip to Madison Square Garden for the November 8th “Battle of the Superpowers” fight as official round-card presenters. The contest had been going on for three weeks and it was now down to the final eight. The finalists included girls from all over northern Florida and as far away as Atlanta. At the end of the night, three winners were chosen, one handpicked by Jones and the other two voted on by a panel of judges.

On Saturday morning it was off to John R. Jones field to watch his eight-year-old son, Roy Jones III, play football as a running back on the Ensley Chiefs. There were a few family members at the game also, including Roy’s mom and both his sisters. Roy “III” did his dad proud, scoring one touchdown and running in two 2-point conversions.

Following the game Roy went to Pensacola Beach where a beach rally for him was held. Over a thousand people were in attendance and the show opened with the teen rap group “3D”, which consists of his twin 17-year-old boys Dre and DJ and his nephew D-Man. Cheerleaders from his alma mater, Washington High School, led cheers among Roy’s supporters.
