Showtime Boxing Results: Carl Frampton unifies Super Bantamweight titles with SD win

Live from the sold out M.E.N. arena in Manchester, England two of the top 122 pound boxers in the world finally met, in one of the most anticipated fights of the year. Both Carl Frampton (21-0 14KO) and Scott Quigg (31-0-2 23KO) entered the ring tonight undefeated and as world champions (IBF & WBA). Scott Quigg would end up leaving with his first loss and without his WBA belt. Carl Frampton was able to control the tempo of the fight and become the new unified super bantamweight champ.

The fight started out slow. Frampton controlled almost the entire first six rounds of the fight, strictly pumping out a steady solid left jab. Quigg stayed shelled up, never measured his distance and only occasionally let his hands go.

The seventh round is when the fight started to take shape. Both fighters finally got into a multi punch exchange. Quigg then followed up the 8th round with a strong beginning, landing power punches, but then stopped and left room for Frampton to steal the end of the round with his jab.

Frampton seemed to be getting tired, and turned his attention to defense, using a stick and move style. While Quigg was trying to land one big shot, knowing that he was behind.

The match really took place in the final three rounds. A fight broke out in the tenth and Scott Quigg started working the body, slowing down Frampton. Frampton continued to fight back. They continued to fight in a phone booth, going toe to toe, both working each other’s body. Quigg even landing a huge right hand that staggered Frampton.

For the final round they came out in the middle of the ring and embraced, knowing that they were about to go to war and leave everything in the ring. Quigg threw his bombs, but Frampton was able to cleanly evade and hold on to win the fight by a split decision and become the unified super bantamweight champion of the world.
