Talkin’ Boxing with Brian Kenny

An interested ringsider Saturday night in Hartford was the superb ESPN boxing commentator Brian Kenny who engaged in this quick chat in the hustle and bustle just moments after Chad Dawson defeated Glen Johnson to defend his IBO Light Heavyweight title. Like the rest of us, Kenny is thrilled for the big one coming up this weekend but has doubts that Mayweather will fight the winner…

BoxingInsider: Next up is the big one between Pacquiao and Cotto, who do you see prevailing?

Brian Kenny: “I think Pacquiao, I’ll go with Pacquiao. But I give Cotto a lot of respect. I think it will be a fascinating fight.”

BoxingInsider: Why do you favor Pacquiao?

Brian Kenny: “I think the hand speed is too much. And I think he carries that power into the weight class. I think he’s gonna throw too much at Miguel Cotto and I think he wins the decision.”

BoxingInsider: Do you think Mayweather will fight Pacquiao next then?

Brian Kenny: “Gee I hope so. But I don’t know. I don’t hear a lot from his camp that indicates that. So that’s a shame. I think that’s a natural fight to make.”

BoxingInsider: It’s the biggest event in the sport, for a sport that really needs it.

Brian Kenny: “Yeah and I think that each guy has to grab that huge money while it’s there. Either one of these guys could lose or anything like that. Somewhere along the way that fight’s not ripe anymore. The time is now.”
